Lighting Obssessed

I LOVE lamps, candles and lanterns.  In our house if you see an overhead light on it usually means we've lost something very small on the carpet.

Here are some very non-traditional lamps I'm simply mad about (as Holly Golightly would say)...

Suppers That Don't Suck

Our favorite meal kit delivery service is closing.  Well, actually merging with another company that doesn't offer meal kits.  Anyway, I'm back to trying to figure out what to make for dinner.  I'm vegetarian, my husband is not but doesn't mind that I don't cook meat at home.  He can order it if he goes out.

Meal time is very hectic at our house so I really like to make something that doesn't suck.  I made a walnut pasta sauce last night that was described as "unbelievable" in the cookbook and it really was.  A very heavy paste.  Yuck.

Looking through my Pinterest board "Cooking is Everyday Magic" for some inspiration...

We made this Roasted Winter Vegetable Crumble from Joy the Baker at Christmas and it was delicious.  Definitely a keeper.

I would probably have macaroni and cheese for every meal but, sadly, my English husband thinks 'pasta isn't food'.

We LOVE tofu!  You don't hear that everyday, do you?  This recipe for General Tso's Tofu is easy and good.

Not a great photo - lentils are never that attractive.  This is a good vegetarian meatless loaf though.

West African Peanut Soup is one of our all-time favorites.  The addition of kale or collards to this one makes it extra good and good for you!

Then there's the best idea of all which is that my husband brings home take-out.  Our favorites are tofu lettuce wraps from PF Changs and pretty much everything from Loving Hut.

Loving Hut is an all vegan restaurant we're lucky enough to have close by.  It's a bit culty-weird but at least it's vegan culty-weird.  The pho is a must-have.  So warming and delicious!

Beautiful Outdoor Spaces

Here in Houston we have two seasons - summer and not-summer.  We have to grab our chances to be outside relaxing in not-summer.  This week promises some days in the high 70's - perfect!

Some of my favorite outdoor spaces...

Our Trip to Magnolia Market in Waco, Texas

We spent a few days in Waco, Texas after Christmas.  I know.  Why?  Well, the attraction for us there is that it's the home of the HGTV show "Fixer Upper".   We really like the show and are fans of the found item/ flea market treasure style of decorating.  Chip and Joanna Gaines come across as very nice, likable people.  Funny, cute, and family oriented!  I had read that they were redoing a property downtown which would include a retail shop.  Waco is about 3 hours from here so we headed out...

The property is called "The Silos" for obvious reasons.  I read that they have received permission to leave the silos themselves as-is.  The ultimate in shabby chic!

They've totally redone this huge building.  It's an amazing renovation that houses the gorgeous retail space, a warehouse and offices.  The big lawn with tons of picnic tables and food trucks make it a very family friendly place to visit.

Here are our Grandchildren.  Climbing is always the best way to explore!

This is another little building they plan to turn into a bakery.  Yes, that's the line-up to get in!

The line went really fast though and we had fun chatting with this couple in front of us.

The shop is cute.  Rustic, shabby chic, etc.  Lots of natural wood and rusty metal!

We bought some natural wood and rusty metal...

This is how Joanna uses the crates in her own farmhouse.  I think ours will be a useful item.

Lots more about Magnolia Market and The Silos here.

If you're thinking of visiting Waco, we stayed at the Hotel Indigo.  Very comfortable and close to everything.

Have a peaceful and creative New Year!
