Giving Thanks

The table is set.  The oranges with cloves smell delicious...

Everyone in the family is home cooking up their special dishes - getting ready to get together and give thanks.

We have so much to be thankful for!

A wall of sari curtains to keep out the cold draughts...

There's a chill in the air - even here in Houston.

Candles will be everywhere...

It's quiet now but the house will be full later...

I LOVE this:
“In the end, though, maybe we must all give up trying to pay back the people in this world who sustain our lives. In the end, maybe it's wiser to surrender before the miraculous scope of human generosity and to just keep saying thank you, forever and sincerely, for as long as we have voices.”

Mori Girl Style

Did everyone on earth except me already know about Mori Girl style?  There's an explanation here...

"Mori" girl means forest girl and the idea is to wear natural fabrics and clothing which looks like you made it and could live in the forest.  Loose fitting layers.  Vintage.  Natural make-up.  Read books.  Take pictures.  Study the forest plants and creatures...

I made this very belated discovery by happening upon Tilda's gorgeous Pinterest board "Mori Girl Inspired".

I had no idea there was a name or a style - and it's big in Japan!

Trendy?  Stylish?  You can't be serious!

Here in Texas our Mori Girl high priestess would be the beautiful and natural Robin of Magnolia Pearl fame...

A person of the blonde persuasion who doesn't wear mascara is so inspiring!  I'm so pale I don't EXIST without mascara!

Robin Pearl Brown and Tilda Swinton - thank you so much!

I adore this look!  I'm SO Mori and didn't even know it.

I'm from Nova Scotia.  I've spent most of my life in layers of natural fabrics.  Mostly because it was really cold.  While actually living in the forest!  Mostly because as hippies we were really poor...

I don't want to be a 'girl' anything but "Mori Woman"?

Yes, please...

Everything old is new again!

Love, peace and layers xoxo

Smudge Sticks and a Cocktail

Home alone for a bit last night - a rare occurrence in our busy household - I thought I'd make some smudge sticks with some rosemary and sage from the garden.

Made a yummy Bloody Mary - with the only straw I could find...

I wrapped the rosemary and sage in green cotton floss and put them in an old depression glass creamer.

On a corner shelf to dry...

peace, love and magic xoxo

When A Friend Gives You Lemons...

One of our darling friends gave us these beautiful lemons from his own lemon tree...

What to make, what to make...

I can add luscious slices to my lemon barley water...

I think I'll make some lemon curd.  I don't eat eggs so I'm so glad I found a vegan version here.

Right now I'm going to make a jar of preserved lemons and feel like a fancy chef in one hour or less - yes, please!

lemony love xoxo

Things You Need At Prices You Can Afford

You know that catalog on the plane of things you didn't know you needed?  Well, here's my version - all from Etsy...

When you cannot find a coin because you spent all of your money on lottery tickets - a scratch off tool

For hiding and smoking - a personal, portable ash tray

Don't fight! a monogrammed i-phone charger

No excuse not to take your meds - folding cup and pill case

For the type of people who would go on TV to buy a house - his and hers tape measures

I would just lose this too - key finder

I love this one!  I've seen those tall cylinder things at thrift stores for years and didn't know what they were for - hairspray and tissue holders

Popular in our family - pocket rosary holder

Apply - blot - apply - lipstick pads

This one is all about the word - vintage lorgnette

Again, it's the word -  "Darling, are you wearing your snood today?"

Awesome - copper sea turtle guitar pick stand

This is way better than where I keep my needles - lost in the couch cushions - antique needle holder

just cute - scotty dog cigarette lighter

before Google - question settler book

See!  Don't you just NEED these things?
