Gypsy Pants

I have really a lot of beautiful vintage saris I've been collecting for years.  I think I may have finally found a use for them - Gypsy Pants!  I made this pair yesterday - taking advantage of the original border print of the sari.

They are very loose and flowing with side pockets and an elastic waist - perfect for summer lounging...

off to sew ...xoxo

Texas Road Trip

Babylon Sisters hit the road yesterday looking for some inspiration and old stuff.  We drove to Round Top, Texas.  Round Top is one of a stretch of little Texas towns that hosts a mega-antique sale in the spring and fall.

So, summer being the off-season, we had a leisurely stroll around the picturesque town and shops.

"Lizzie Lou" was definitely my favorite shop!

Strange and/or rusty - a winning combination for me!

Round Top Texas

Lunch at Royers Round Top Cafe was OMG! fantastic!  (Most items on the menu have OMG! in the description and they're not kidding.)

My purchases for the day...

very old Asian pencil box

fabulous flamingo ash tray

yet another beautiful Papaya journal

I have TONS of journals but, with pages like this, how could I resist?

Curtains, Cards and Granny Chic...

Just finished these gypsy curtains.  I think the old silk scarves with roses are my favorites.  I love the chiffon scarves on these too - they all have black velvet-y patterns around the edges.

Working on some greeting cards for my Etsy shop...

Latest thrift store finds - granny chic!  Calico and gingham print placemats, aprons and oven mitts.

"VAREKAI" Gypsy Curtains

New Gypsy Curtains at my Etsy shop ...

"Varekai" means 'wherever' in the Romany language of the gypsies - the universal wanderers.

Some gypsy caravans I imagine these curtains hanging in...

happy wandering! xoxo

Save or Splurge?

Babylon Sisters are DEVOTED to second-hand and thrift store shopping.  But, can we find everything on Etsy or at thrift stores?  What should we save on and what should we splurge on?  Glad you asked...

SAVE on vintage dishware.  Buy what you love.

Mix.  Don't match!

SPLURGE on food.  Buy the best you can find.  Fresh, organic, local...

SAVE on picture frames.  Thrift stores are full of them!

SPLURGE on family photos.  Capture those moments!

SAVE on a totally unique beaded and sequined jacket.

SPLURGE on some great jeans to go with it.

SAVE on vintage vinyl.  You know you want to!

SPLURGE on a new record player.  We've bought some old and funky ones from E-bay but haven't had much luck...

SAVE on some gorgeous vintage lamps...

SPLURGE on checking the wiring is safe and some LED bulbs.

SAVE on a vintage sundress

SPLURGE on cute sandals to go with it!

Happy shopping! xoxo
