Moisturize Or Else!

You can never be too rich, too thin - or too well moisturized.  Dull paste-y looking skin is the MOST aging thing there is.  I know.  I watch people at airports.

I know the natural girls say you can just go in the kitchen and find something to throw on your skin.  I suppose you could if you were raised by wolves. I prefer a more civilized approach.  Here are some products I love -

Karma kream from Lush.  Gorgeous orange flower and patchouli scent.

Born lippy from the Body Shop

Zum body lotion from Indigo Wild.  Fantastic fragrances.

Neutrogena body oil on damp skin right out of the shower. Don't waste your money on the store brand substitutes.  I already did that for you.

This Wise Woman day cream from the Body Shop leaves almost a sparkle-sheen.  We definitely want to sparkle!

Smashbox primers.  Do I really need a foundation primer?  Yes. You do.

Order this 'face firmer' oil from Heidi's Holistic Blends.  I use it the same as you would a 'serum'.  It smells gorgeous, it doesn't remotely irritate my skin, and it makes my La Mer go on a million times better and last longer.  It's $20 and lasts forever.  You're welcome!

A Prayer for Today

Lord, thou knowest better than myself that I am growing older and will soon be old. Keep me from becoming too talkative, and especially from the unfortunate habit of thinking that I must say something on every subject and at every opportunity.

Release me from the idea that I must straighten out other peoples' affairs. With my immense treasure of experience and wisdom, it seems a pity not to let everybody partake of it. But thou knowest, Lord, that in the end I will need a few friends.

Keep me from the recital of endless details; give me wings to get to the point.

Grant me the patience to listen to the complaints of others; help me to endure them with charity. But seal my lips on my own aches and pains -- they increase with the increasing years and my inclination to recount them is also increasing.

I will not ask thee for improved memory, only for a little more humility and less self-assurance when my own memory doesn't agree with that of others. Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be wrong.

Keep me reasonably gentle. I do not have the ambition to become a saint -- it is so hard to live with some of them -- but a harsh old person is one of the devil's masterpieces.

Make me sympathetic without being sentimental, helpful but not bossy. Let me discover merits where I had not expected them, and talents in people whom I had not thought to possess any. And, Lord, give me the grace to tell them so.

Women of Substance

In interviews, the first question I get in America is always: "What do you do to stay young?" I do nothing. I don't think aging is a problem. What irritates me a little is growing fatter. It irritates me that if I eat what I want to eat, it shows. Yes, my face has wrinkles. But I don't find it monstrous. I'm so surprised that the emphasis on aging here is on physical decay, when aging brings such incredible freedom. Now what I want most is laughs. I don't want to hurt anybody by laughing—there is no meanness to it. I just want to laugh. - Isabella Rossellini

Dame Judi is SO dench!

"Outside of the marriage context, can you think of any other rational basis, reason, for a state using sexual orientation as a factor in denying homosexuals benefits? Or imposing burdens on them? Is there any other decision-making that the government could make -- denying them a job, not granting them benefits of some sort, any other decision?"

Chief Justice Sonia Sotomayor - You go girl!

The sheer folly of trying to defend a nation by destroying all life on the planet must be apparent to anyone capable of rational thought. Nuclear capability must be reduced to zero, globally, permanently. There is no other option.

Queen Noor of Jordan

“There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.”

Cocktail Time!

Sometimes a cocktail is the answer - who cares what the question was...

As Nigella Lawson says,  "Bloody Mary is the girl for me".  Her recipe for a pitcherful is always a part of family gatherings at our house.

In Canada, it's a "Bloody Caesar".  The difference is Clamato juice instead of vegetable juice.  Also, the rim of the glass is dipped in lemon juice and celery salt.

In New Orleans, the Bloody Mary follows the popular local adage, "If something is worth doing, it's worth over-doing".  Lots of garnish, lots of spice, lots of vodka!

You can buy pepper flavored vodka but something we like to do that makes up feel terribly creative is put some dried chili peppers in a bottle of good vodka just for making bloody marys.  You can find dried chili peppers in a little package in the Spanish section of the super market. It gets pretty hot so start out by putting just a couple in and leaving it for a week or more.
