Projects in Progress

Here's what I'm working on today -

My gypsy tent sanctuary.  It's a canvas gazebo from Ikea with curtains all around (included) for only $149.  I added a bamboo mat, comfy chair and flags from Art to Go.  Love it!

These jeans.  I drew the design with fabric markers and am in the process of embroidering and beading over it.  These are for my Etsy shop.

The design on the jeans was somewhat inspired by this beautiful drawing I found on Pinterest.

The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul

It's Spring in Houston!  The sun is shining, the sky is blue, flowers are blooming, birds are singing...  You get the idea.  Here is how I feel -

I endeavor to be bright and colorful but I am more of a gothic person at heart.

Our Summer Home

Our family has a summer home in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.  Cape Breton is absolutely beautiful.

I'm so proud of my Scottish heritage.  I spent summers in Cape Breton when I was a kid and loved it.  The old farmhouse has been in our family for generations.

By "family" I mean that my actual family would rather let the house sink into the ground or perhaps burn down than let me near it.  But that's o.k..  I live in hope and I hope to decorate.  Here are some ideas from Pinterest I've collected that are perfect for the old farmhouse summer home...

The house is near the ocean so shells and and clean colors are perfect.

Driftwood.

And more driftwood.

An outdoor shower.

And a bit more driftwood.

Evenings are cool in Cape Breton even during the summer.

A welcoming kitchen.

Stowing the surfboards.

Re- purposing a family heirloom.

Off to Mabou, a nearby village for dinner and Scottish music.

Check out my House in Cape Breton board on Pinterest for my winter ideas for after the summer with the family goes really well...

Butterflies and Mushrooms

I've been embroidering and patching old jeans for my Etsy shop.  This has turned out to be kind of a labor-intensive-crazy-lunatic thing to do but I'm OK with that.  I decided to listen to one of my favorite bands of the early 70's for some inspiration as I was sewing.  LIGHTHOUSE from Ontario, Canada.  I thought the lead singer was just the cutest...

In one of the videos I watched he's wearing a t-shirt with a big butterfly on the front.  Butterflies were obviously a theme.

So, I'm going to embroider some butterflies on the jeans.  Here's an example of the real thing from the 70's at amy4catherine on Etsy.

Can't forget mushrooms though - also very popular with hippie types...
I just sold these 70's mushroom shakers from my Etsy shop today.

My sister has this leather cuff in her shop - Trailer Park Gypsy.  Butterflies AND mushrooms - perfect!

Crazy plastic wall art at Babylon Sisters.

Love the pattern on these little note cards from RetroMemories.

More vintage embroidery at TinyWingsVintage.  Note - mushrooms and butterflies.

Save the Silver!

I don't know about other cities, but EVERYWHERE you go in Houston there are places buying gold and silver. There seems to be one every block or so with crazy people out waving signs and arrows.  Apparently everyone is selling their gold and silver jewelry for cash as fast as they can.  I've never really been a fan of gold but I am worried about silver.  I love silver jewelry and would hate to see it go extinct.  Here are some pieces I found on Etsy - so glad they didn't have them melted down...

These earrings are stamped and signed.  A very wearable style from Taking Shape.

This is so gorgeous!  A treasure from thebestvintage.

This flask is a work of art.  SilverMagpies has lots of beautiful and useful silver items.

This ring is exactly my size.  Might need to get it from GreenEyedEnvy.

Silver bangles are my favorite.  Love this one from hmael.

My parents had a lot of silver pieces they would have received as wedding gifts.  I loved the job of polishing the silver when I was a kid!  This set is from rovervintage.

How sweet is this antique brooch?  Hand painted miniature in a silver frame from ParisAtelier.

Another pretty bangle from DecoratingYourself.

Off to look through my jewelry and polish my silver...
