Spied It - Found It!

Every Sunday a little package of newspaper gets thrown on our driveway.  Every Sunday I pick it up to put it in the recycling and look at the front page which is a fashion trend feature from the Houston Chronicle.  This week it's

So, in my little version of "Spied it - Found it", I'm going to show you the fashion trend for the week and then find some fun vintage versions on Etsy.

This week our theme is cool summer chic.

Let's start with those cute Juicy Couture wedge sandals - $195.

Vintage 1960's leather and wood sandals from pistolpoppy. $52.

Silver strappy sandals from moonshinehill.  $20.

Original 1970's wood and leather platforms from iseefrance. $74.

The silver glitter straw bag is also Juicy Couture and $198.  I know it's not glitter but this sweet straw tote is only $15 from TheFrenchFarmGirl.

This bright and beachy bag is in our Babylon Sisters shop for $32.

A more sophisticated shape from LiliesValleyVintage.  $45.

Add some sparkle with this jeweled bag from 20twentyvintage.  $36.

The rainbow floral maxi dress from Kohl's is only $64 but why not go vintage gypsy with this one from circa1955vintage for $72?

Look at this beautiful 1960's Hawaiian beach cover-up from ironorchidvintage! $42.

If you're going to go floral, how cute is this from violetfolklore? $40.

The bright turquoise top in the fashion feature is I.N.C. from Macy's for $44.50.  Here's a great Indian tunic from nickiefrye for $28.

My idea of summer chic from vdingy.  $58.

I Heart New York

I just watched  "The Cruise", a 1998 documentary about a New York City tour guide - Timothy "Speed" Levitch.  Interesting...

"Speed" knows everything about New York and is a very poetic (and eccentric) guy!

I have never lived in New York but have been there many times.  I thought I'd search Etsy for some New York related items.  LOOK!

Great souvenir scarf from the 1964-1965 World's Fair at blacklistvintage.  I was there with my family but was too young to remember it.

Subway map votives from Blackbird Chic.

A beautiful shot of Central Park from irenesuchocki.

Fab 60's Milly of New York mini dress at Skin and Wood

A couple of cool vintage New York landmark prints from Bingo Box.

Let's Talk About - RATS!

In an effort to make my blog popular with as many people as possible, I've been thinking about a topic we all enjoy so much - rats. Growing up in the port city of Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada), my relationship with rats is long and mostly... just awful.

Taking the ferry back and forth between Halifax and Dartmouth is just beautiful and something I miss so much!  The waterfront is lovely.  Just don't focus your eyes on the rocks too much...

or you might notice them crawling with creatures that look exactly nothing like this.

I thought it was strange when I fell in love with the kid's movie Ratatouille.  I'm all about conquering my fears.  My son claims I slept through lightening hitting the plane.

I'm seriously scared of small furry animals that look nothing like this.

I read on a blog that I love that the temple rats of India are well-fed and it's considered lucky if they bite you.  They don't look like this.

Have you seen the Orkin rats?  Excellent.

OMG!  Why have I done this to myself?  It's like talking about my ex-husband and his family.  Now I'm going to have nightmares and the you-know-whats are going to look nothing like this.

A Rhetorical Question

So, to say that I have a close-knit family might be an understatement.  We had a bit of a family crisis today (teenager behaving badly, no big deal) and the phones were ringing off the hook.  Well, not the hook exactly since we don't have that anymore but lets just say the phones were vibrating, making noises and playing Stevie Wonder songs.

Reflecting on the day I'm thinking that we all begin every conversation with "Are you crazy?".  Well, that's like asking "How are you?" and not really meaning it.  Of course I'm crazy.

What kind of a question is that?

the whole family is obviously crazy

don't try to make it sound like it's just me

I'm just trying to bend over backwards

I know I said I wasn't going to have a blog anymore but my darling husband looked at my "Last Post" and said...

Are you crazy?

Last Post

Ok, I admit defeat, my blog has 21 followers, down from 22 at it's high point. I was thinking of it as a creative outlet to compliment my etsy shop.  maybe not .

I tried to have a facebook account but there are 7 choices for gender and I don't really know why I shouldn't be able to choose "monarch" as my catagory.

                                                                cheers  - thanks a lot
