Witchy Woman

Do you have your Halloween costume ready?  I pretty much always go with witch since I already have everything I need (and wear it year-round).  Here's some of my favorite witch-wear from Etsy:

These fab shoes are from my etsy shop - like one of the ugly step-sisters, I tried and tried to fit into these but I just don't!

These, from retrochique, would fit me though so don't even think about it!  They will be mine!

Decorating Book Heaven!

Babylon Sisters found these beautiful decorating books at a thrift store - a perfect gift for our perfect mother!

All beautiful but this one is our particular favorite (a little too shabby for Mom!)

Look at these fantastic rooms!

Vintage Wallpaper Ideas

The house of the year in the November issue of Country Living magazine featured a closet with vintage wallpaper from http://www.secondhandrose.com/.

Most of us couldn't face the idea (or the expense) of wallpapering a whole big room but the idea of a closet or an accent wall is so fun!  Here's some great vintage wallpaper I found on Etsy:

Fantastic color and pattern from catsinthecradlesoap.

French poster art from stablemates.

A classic shabby chic floral from rustyrosepetals.

Poison label wallpaper!  Love this!  From elementstyle.

And here are some great ideas from Apartment Therapy on how to use it:

Babylon Sisters Pretty Much Rock

I like to do a major decorating project when my husband travels.  I can make a mess and leave it - I don't have to stop and make supper, etc..  Well, he's in Europe for three weeks but in only one day (and $300) we redecorated the living room.  LOOK!

O.K., listen to this - the never-used, custom-made, down-filled red velvet-covered sofa was $150.  The two contrasting custom gold and red chairs were $50 each.  The round painted table used for a coffee table was $20.  Everything else we had somewhere in the house.

The three old suitcases add storage and character for about $5 each.

Maybe because we travel so much, globes are kind of a theme with us.  This light-up version is perfect.

One of our all time favorite pieces - this mid-century console (free from the curb in New Orleans) with some things we love on top and a 50's blue moon lamp.

This 'new' fabulous furniture came from a thrift shop that helps to support a women's shelter.  Seriously, it's a win-win situation to recyle and reuse!  AND your husband will be totally impressed when he gets back from his world travels!

A Fall Day in Spring

Babylon Sisters went and wandered around Old Town Spring, Texas today.  Just looking for some inspiration on such a beautiful day.  We found lots - most of all at the gorgeous "Thads".  Look!

A Grand Entrance!

Love the window treatments!  Love the lamps!  Love the luxury!

Just in case you're not totally convinced of Thad's decorating superiority - this black and white wall is completely stencilled.  No easy-way-out wallpapering for Thad!

I do have to say at this point though that Babylon Sisters bought absolutely nothing at Thads.  Yes, we are those annoying people who look at everything and say "I could make that", or worse, "We'll find that at a thrift store".  We just can't help it!  We did happen to run into the local Goodwill in Spring, Texas and find two little vintage still lifes for our kitchen and two Enid Collins purses for our shop.  Thrift stores are the best! (Sorry, Thad!)

What's the buzz? Tell me what's a Happenin'!

Watching "Jesus Christ Superstar" on television tonight.  I've seen it too many times to count but I'm still struck by some things - the songs, the sets and costumes, the fact that no one had any body fat in the 70's...

Here are some Etsy finds from the skinny 70's -

Natural Hippie

The perfect ethnic caftan.

Great hip-hugger bellbottoms.

The necessary vest.

Covet Garden

dThere's a new on-line decor magazine about real people's homes from Canada called "Covet Garden".  Love the idea, as long as the real people aren't billionaires!  It looks very promising - here are some pictures:

Tis' the Season to be ORANGE

It's Fall - Babylon Sisters' absolute favorite time of year!  Even here in Houston it's fall-ish.  Well, not blazing hot anyway.  Here are some touches of orange around our house -

Our front door just happens to be orange so it's a great starting point for fall (and Halloween) decorating.

The metal plant holder we got from someone's garbage a few weeks ago with some Spanish moss, herbs and the first little pumpkins of the season.  The round sign above is Gaelic and says "One Hundred Thousand Welcomes", but you knew that.

Babylon Sisters found this at a thrift store for $6!  I was so excited but realized it was only fair that my sister should have it since she spotted it first.  Image my surprise when she said she found it creepy!  Score!  I added the hat for a festive touch - this family looks like they could use it.
