Bohemian Gypsy Bedroom

Ever since I did this post, I've felt my bedroom is practically naked.  I need so much MORE!  Today I'm going to hang some shimmery purple sheer curtains (from Ikea) over the bed - for a start.

This picture is from Interior Alchemy - the maximalist's bible.

I like this idea of starting with a store-bought mosquito net and then embellishing with fabric.

Light and airy with a little chandelier is pretty.

When we first moved into this house I painted the bedroom green to re-create the color scheme of this room.  The green was way too much for me though and I changed it to a dusty purple/grey.

Love the Indian fabric in this one.

The totally tented boudior!

It's a bit cold in Houston - 48 degrees F.  We're from Halifax, Nova Scotia so we're not complaining by any means!  Just looking at some cozy knitted items on Etsy...

I love this wonderful cloak made from recycled sweaters.

Pink Moon Goddess Shawl Wrap.

Beautiful, one-of-a-kind, gypsy bag.

A poodle hat.  Seriously.

A cute knitted cuff.

Fingerless gloves reconstructed from old sweaters.  Brilliant!

A tunic made from re-purposed sweaters.

The Blog before the Storm

Our Christmas Eve supper will be about New Orleans - our beautiful city we left five years ago.  We evacuated the Saturday before Hurricane Katrina with two cars full of adults, babies, dogs and cats and little else.  It was weeks before we knew if everyone we knew was still alive (they were) and months before we knew if we still owned anything (we did).  We were so, so lucky when many others were not.

Tomorrow will be traditional turkey dinner, etc., but tonight is all about NOLA!

Frank Davis' Y'at Style macaroni and cheese.  The name of the recipe seems to have been changed to 'Chalmation' macaroni and cheese, but, no matter, pour on the hot sauce and enjoy!

Shrimp Creole.  Also Frank Davis' recipe.

Lots of Zatarain's rice.

Spicy Bloody Marys (and other adult beverages).  Yeah, you're right!

A little last minute inspiration...

Our New Orleans guests have arrived.  Our British guests are on the plane.  I guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be for this Christmas.  Here are a few of my favorite holiday decorating ideas if you need a little last minute inspiration.

A bit of Pagan flair!

Natural elements on the mantel.  Easy and free!

Bright.  Modern.  Fun.

This is so beautiful and more than a little crazy.  It's a real spruce tree stripped of all it's needles and then sprayed with silver paint and white flocking.  A ton of white fairy lights and silver ornaments - fabulous!

Maybe next year.  For now, it's time to get cooking and just

Making Clothespin Fairies

We've been making clothespin fairies with the kids.  Look!

We started out making conventional pretty fairies.

A little Eddie Izzard fairy.

Elphaba from Wicked.

A Crow Girl inspired by Someplace to be Flying.

A fantastically detailed Jack Sparrow.

And they're still at it...

Etsy Favorite Items that all seem to be PINK

I was just looking at my favorite Etsy items and there seems to be a theme - pink.  LOOK!

I love this gorgeous jacket, although in real life I mainly wear black.

I don't really wear turbans in real life either, but if I did, it would be this one.

Glinda, the good witch, in her PINK dress.

I love old tins, I love pink - maybe I should buy these for myself!

Beautiful salt and pepper shakers in a case!  Elegant for a picnic.

How sweet is this figurine?

A pink poodle from my Etsy shop.

I'm not really a fan of diamonds since I learned about diamond mines, etc. but pink rhinestones are guilt-free!

Oh, those daring people who still have the nerve to smoke!  Not me, I'm afraid, but I do love this pink ashtray.

Pink trees at The Girl from Yesterday.

Today I'm thinking about opulence.  I'm not sure why - I don't think there's much of a link to my present reality.  Maybe I'm just dreaming of rooms that don't have three large dogs and a baby smearing pop-tarts all over everything...

I love the gold border on the walls in this room.  From The Paris Traveler

Another beautiful room from WeddingSutra.  There's not much more opulent than Indian weddings.

I don't really care what they serve - I love this very opulent restaurant.

A lovely nursery - obviously for someone without children.

What to wear when you're lounging around opulent rooms.  This picture is called "Drink like a Fish".

This and lots of other opulent rooms at Style Key West.

The once-opulent Lynnewood Hall in New Jersey.

A crazy or opulent bathroom?

Luna Parc.  My kind of opulence.
